Everything is political – in particular universities. They are crucial for social progress, which is exactly why we want TU Vienna and HTU to take a stand! Social policies do not stop at the universities’ doors. Especially in times of increasing hostility towards science and right-wing extremist tendencies, universities must be a loud voice for change.
independent.
We were founded at TU Vienna and are party-independent. As TU students from different fields of study, we are familiar with this university and have a good relationship with the student councils and the students themselves. In the university student representation, we address the problems and concerns that we all face during our studies.
anti-discriminatory.
We oppose all forms of discrimination. We stand for a university and a student representation that establishes structures to protect and support the affected people. Institutions and structures must question themselves, their own racism and their own mechanisms of exclusion. This is the only way to create a university where everyone can feel comfortable and safe.
queer- feminist.
The patriarchy does not stop at teaching and research. We stand for a queer-feminist student representation that does not lose sight of the interdependence of several forms of discrimination. We stand up for the rights of all students – especially trans and non-binary people.
antifascist.
We take a clear stance against ethnic nationalism and right-wing agitation at universities. Universities – including the TU Vienna – have historically been and continue to be closely intertwined with fraternities – this history must be addressed and dealt with. Universities must not be places for right-wing men's associations.
solidary.
We want to promote a solidary student community – within TU Vienna and beyond! We take the concerns of all students seriously and are always on your side. Studying must not be made impossible because of financial, social or psychological reasons! We are against tuition-fees, admission restrictions and other exclusion mechanisms!
critical.
We name problems clearly and want to solve them in a constructive manner. We are not afraid to take a stand and question the decisions made by the HTU and the university. What topics are taught and researched at TU Vienna, and which ones are left out? TU Vienna bears responsibility for the impact of its research; we demand a critical assessment of the consequences of technological development!
collective.
We work in a democratic and consensus-oriented way. We want to facilitate open and low-threshold participation for everyone – regardless of whether they already have experience in student representation work or not. You can not only vote for us, but also come by and take part in our discussions!
sustainable.
The climate crisis concerns us all. TU Vienna must fulfil its social responsibility and take on a clear political role. Climate-damaging research has no place at our university! We want research and teaching that works towards an equitable future instead of individualised solutions. We demand climate justice that considers social and ecological issues equally.
outspoken.
We stand for co-participation and democracy at the university. We don't have to accept everything as it is, we can and must have a say as students! Universities must not act like profit-oriented companies. Whether in the senate, in the drawing studios, in the lab or in the canteen - we stand up loudly for a better university!
our programme
As tu*basis, we are committed to a socially inclusive and diverse university and good studying conditions for everyone! For us, this includes a commitment to open and free access to higher education, contact points for students affected by discrimination and a political, critical and queer-feminist HTU. You can find our ideas and proposals on the respective topics under the individual sub-menus. for an open and discrimination-free uni
for a better everyday university life
for good studies and a university with a clear position
for a political student representation:
öh-election 2025 mai 13th - 15th
What are you voting for in the ÖH-election?
1. Student representatives (election of individual persons)
Each study-programme has its own body of student representatives. This consists of three to five people, so you have three to five votes to cast.
2. University student representation (list election)
The university representation is the link between students and the university administration. At TU Vienna, it consists of 17 to 19 seats, which are appointed by different political groups depending on the election results. You can therefore vote for the tu*basis at TU Vienna.
3. Federal representation (list election)
The federal representation represents all students to the public. It consists of 55 mandates, which are filled by different factions depending on the election results. Accordingly, you can cast a vote for a faction.
Who is eligible to vote?
In Austria, all students are members of the ÖH (Austrian National Union of Students). At the beginning of each semester, the so-called ‘ÖH contribution’ is transferred to the university as part of the registration process, which the university then passes on to the ÖH. Why this is relevant here:
All students who have transferred their ÖH contribution to the university before the deadline of the 25th of March 2025 are eligible to vote in the ÖH election of 2025. You do not have to be an Austrian citizen! Erasmus students can also vote!
about us
We, the tu*basis, are a democratic, consensus-oriented group of committed students who stand up for the interests of students in the university student representation.
As a party-independent group at TU Vienna, we act in accordance with our principles in order to advocate for equal rights for all. We stand for tolerance and respect regardless of gender, (social) background and sexual orientation, as well as for an open culture of dialogue at eye level. We always challenge decisions made by the university management and teaching staff – as well as our own.
We stand for a politically active and critical HTU that goes beyond service and stands up for the rights of all students. Social policies should never stop at the doors of the university! We speak out on current discourses and also represent our opinions at demonstrations. We stand for free education, freedom of expression, transparency in decision-making processes and a pleasant everyday student life.
How can spaces for students be expanded and improved? What influences do the economy and labour market have on us? What role does the university play in our society? If you think all of this is relevant but do not see a way to get personally involved, you can simply vote for us.
